Biography

Hi there, I’m David and welcome to my little corner of Spotify… First, let me just say that I hope you all are keeping safe as we face this ‘monster’ virus together. This is no time to be cavalier. Look after yourselves. I realize, many of you will probably know me best as an actor. It’s true, I’ve been very fortunate to have had a long and varied career in the theatre, in film and on television, including a couple of what I guess you could call ‘cult’ shows… STARSKY & HUTCH, SALEM’S LOT, MAGNUM FORCE. But what you may not know is that MUSIC is my first love and it all started in Mexico back in 1962 when I was studying at the University of Mexico and a group of Mexican students, not particularly great fans of the North American ‘gringo’, took exception and gave me a guitar and taught me the folk songs of Mexico. It changed my life and the course of my career choice, even as music paved the way into acting. It’s a long story … over 50 years long… so I’ll tell you about it another time. Meanwhile, I hope you enjoy the eclectic music you’ll hear on this site. I’ve been fortunate to have played with some wonderful musicians over the years, including jazz great Monty Alexander, guitarist Hugh Burns, Al Kooper B3 Hammond organ, Taj Mahal, drummer Jim Hodder of Steely Dan and even some backing vocals by Timmy Smit and the Eagles. Oh, and just to let you know that a 3CD set and a gold vinyl album appropriately titled, DAVID SOUL GOLD has just been released this spring.
