Biography
A British boy band with an approach that sets them apart, Collabro are a vocal group who specialize in songs from popular stage and screen musicals, as well as sentimental pop favorites. Blending emotive lead vocals with close group harmonies, their performances display polish and cool professionalism while still infusing the music with a youthful charm. After gaining a following from their appearances on a televised talent competition, they released their first album, Stars, in 2014, which documented the sound that made them a success in the U.K., while 2020's Love Like This found them approaching a more diverse variety of pop songs. Collabro formed in January 2014 when friends Matt Pagan and Jamie Lambert auditioned singers Michael Auger, Richard Hadfield, and Thomas J. Redgrave to join them in a singing group that would specialize in musical theater and pop. Just one month after forming, the quintet auditioned for the eighth season of the popular television series Britain's Got Talent. Their performance of the song "Stars" from Les Misérables earned them a unanimous vote from all four judges, and over the course of the summer they would climb their way to the top, emerging in June as the season's winners. They immediately signed with Simon Cowell's Syco Records and issued their debut album, Stars, in August of 2014. The release was a success and the group returned in 2015 with Act Two, featuring more powerful versions of classic stage pieces from shows such as Cats, The Lion King, and The Phantom of the Opera. In 2016, Richard Hadfield left the group, and Collabro continued as a quartet on 2017's Home, their first release for Peak Productions. A live album, Road to the Royal Albert Hall, was issued in 2018. Collabro left Peak Productions to strike a new deal with BMG, and their debut for the label was their fourth studio album, 2020's Love Like This. ~ Timothy Monger & Mark Deming, Rovi
