Biography
Formed in 2004 as a part-time recording project, Years Around The Sun initially found popularity within the San Diego music scene when demo songs featuring their unique instrumentation and vocal pairing began to land on the soundtracks of indie surf films capturing the laidback California lifestyle. Realizing the chemistry of their writing styles, Ronnie Dudek (Secret Lynx) and Dylan Raasch (Bodhikan) began work on their first full length album Inva De Siva, in 2008, which solidified the group and demonstrated the depth and breadth of their evolving sound. As the album continued to grow in popularity, the group was approached by renowned surf film director Taylor Steele to work on the soundtrack for his upcoming movie Castles in the Sky, which would take place on location in remote destinations within Peru, Iceland, and Vietnam. When it came time to record the final songs, the two went to work on a new sound that was more paired back. With the release of the movie, and the subsequent release of the Acoustic edit of Miles Away, the band was catapulted onto the world stage gaining fans across the globe with their new sound. In 2012, immediately after the release of their second full length album, Incarnation, the duo parted ways and took a hiatus to explore other musical projects. Dudek and Raasch have since reunited and are currently working on their third full-length album to be released in early 2024.
