Biography
The nom de plume of Massachusetts-raised, London-based singer/songwriter and producer Woodson Black, Haux delivers a dreamy fusion of indie electronic, pop, and folk. Black's inward-looking dream-folk drew acclaim in 2016 with the arrival of the EP All We've Known, which invoked comparisons to contemporaries like Bon Iver, C Duncan, and Benjamin Francis Leftwich. He released his debut full-length effort, Violence in a Quiet Mind, in 2020. Black spent his formative years soaking in the lush beauty of the Berkshires, and that pastoral aesthetic can be heard in his music. After attending Northeastern University in Boston, Black landed an internship at a record label in London. There he immersed himself in the music scene, both through writing and photography, as well as composing, and in 2016 he released his debut EP, All We've Known, on Akira Records. Haux spent the following year building up a catalog of similarly dreamy singles like "Touch," "Youth," and "Cologne," all of which were eventually collated into his 2018 follow-up EP Something to Remember. Two years later, Black issued his first full-length effort, Violence in a Quiet Mind. Produced by Thomas Bartlett (Rhye, Sufjan Stevens), the LP reflected on Black's childhood, touching on issues like depression, illness, and loss. ~ James Christopher Monger, Rovi
