Biography
Eilert Pilarm, whose real surname is Dahlberg, fashioned himself into Sweden's version of Elvis Presley. He put out three cassettes that covered the King's material, appropriately called Elvis I, Elvis II, and Elvis III. He distributed these by mail order or following his concerts. From those releases he culled the contents of Greatest Hits, his debut CD, which was distributed by MCA in the spring of 1996. Not the usual musical artist, or even the usual Elvis impersonator -- he doesn't even sound like Elvis, let alone look like him -- Pilarm earned a place in a book whose focus is unusual artists, Irwin Chusid's Songs in the Key of Z: The Curious Universe of Outsider Music. A supplementary CD of outsider music was issued by Which? Records and features Pilarm, B.J. Snowden, Peter Grudzien, Daniel Johnston, and 22 others. Pilarm has been featured on the BBC's Big Breakfast Millennium Special. He made an on-air appearance at Wilkes-Barre, PA, radio station KRZ during Elvis Week. He gave concerts in Oslo, Norway, and sang on Danish television in 1997. A pair of Swedish softball teams even named themselves in honor of the Elvis impersonator. One is called Eilert's Angels. ~ Linda Seida, Rovi
