Biography
Cal in Red is an indie pop/rock outfit formed in 2019 by brothers Connor and Kendall Wright (Grand Rapids, MI). Their early music was hazy and summery, jangly and guitar driven. Those yearning, hopeful tones of these early sessions morphed into a bright, indie-pop scape on their 2021 debut EP "Cellular" (B3SCI Records). After touring in spring of 2022 (which included a stop at Treefort Music Fest), the brothers spent the better part of the year playing shows around Grand Rapids and recording their second EP. The 6-song sophomore effort titled "On the Dance Floor" was released February 3rd (B3SCI Records). It explores anxiety, camaraderie, the aspirations of the young band as they sonically open the door a bit wider. Cal in Red self-booked and toured the western United States during March of 2023; this included 15 shows and their third stop at Treefort Music Fest. The brothers look to settle back into their bedroom studio this summer while playing a few local and East Coast dates. The first offering of these sessions, Habits, will be released on 7/11/23. Cal in Red have found success being added to notable playlists including New Music Friday, Today's Indie Rock and All New Indie, among others. Recently their song Zebra was featured on an episode of the Paramount Plus drama, Skymed. Act Like was featured on an episode of Freeform's, Good Trouble.
