Biography
Black Bear is the music project of Sam Beebe, a musician and writer who recently relocated from Brooklyn, NY to Munich, Germany. You can support the production of the first new Black Bear songs in over a decade! Find me on Patreon at blackbearsambeebe In 2006, I released my debut album The Cinnamon Phase on my Seattle-based label, Baskerville Hill, which I founded and ran with my good friend Scott Reitherman (@Throw Me The Statue and @Pillar Point). Baskerville Hill closed up shop in 2008, after Throw Me The Statue was offered a contract with Secretly Canadian, and I, then living in Europe, decided to put the Black Bear project into hibernation and focus more on writing. From 2008-2010, I attended the MFA program in Creative Writing at New York University, after which I stayed on at NYU as a writing teacher. All the while, I still sold Black Bear CD's and communicated with fans, but only in 2011, after continuing demand, did I release The Cinnamon Phase digitally. Since then, the song "Black Bear" has been streamed over 3 million times, to my ongoing amazement and gratitude. In 2017, I decided to release a group of previously unreleased songs and demos, called "Uncovered Tracks from The Cinnamon Phase Days: Teaching Myself to Make Music." Now, Black Bear is emerging from hibernation, beginning with a string of singles, including “Black Bear, Pt. II,” "Overflow the Borders," "Such Great Heights," and "Dorothy." A full album is slated to be released in 2023.
