Eduardo Gudin is an important Brazilian composer who was born in São Paulo, the capital city, in 1950. He is a guitarist, composer, and arranger who navigates the border between popular and classical music. He is best known as a composer of sambas, with a very distinctive style. Still, he is also a composer of songs, film soundtracks, and orchestral arrangements, with mastery of both popular and classical guitar. In addition to being a melodist, he is also a lyricist and has composed songs with several illustrious partners such as Paulinho da Viola, Paulo Vanzolini, Paulo César Pinheiro, Adoniran Barbosa, Arrigo Barnabé, Aldir Blanc, Ivan Lins, Roberto Riberti, J.C. Costa Netto, Francis Hime, Caetano Veloso, Elton Medeiros, Nelson Cavaquinho, among others. He also works as an orchestrator, teacher, and cultural producer. His songs have been recorded by such names as Dick Farney, João Nogueira, Márcia, Paulinho Nogueira, Paulo César Pinheiro, Quarteto em Cy, Roberto Riberti, Paulinho da Viola, Elizeth Cardoso, Beth Carvalho, Gal Costa, Clara Nunes, MPB-4, Leila Pinheiro, Jair Rodrigues, and others. Gudin celebrates 57 years of his career in 2023.
