Biography
A "chamber progressive" duo who fuse classical, rock, jazz, and folk music influences, iamthemorning were formed in St. Petersburg, Russia in 2010. Vocalist Marjana Semkina and classically trained piano player Gleb Kolyadin are the only official members of the group, even though they often bring in accompanists for their recording and performing projects. Iamthemorning made their recording debut in 2012 with an album cryptically titled ~. They signed with Kscope Records (UK), which released their second album, Belighted, in 2014, featuring guest appearances by drummer Gavin Harrison from the band Porcupine Tree and currently King Crimson. The group documented their live sound with the 2015 album From the House of Arts. In 2016, iamthemorning released Lighthouse via Kscope. Mixed by Marcel van Limbeek (Tori Amos), it was recorded in London, Moscow, and St. Petersburg. Lighthouse once again has Harrison now joined by Colin Edwin of Porcupine tree fame as iamthemorning's rhythm section, chamber strings orchestra, brass section, children choir, and vocalist Mariusz Duda (Lunatic Soul, Riverside). In August'16, the recording won Album of the Year at the Progressive Music Awards, whereas both Semkina and Kolyadin are being voted into Top-10 best vocalists/keyboardists of the year by Prog Magazine readers year after year. Semkina has been chosen Female Vocalist of the Year and Woman of the Year in 2016.
