Biography
For their latest single "Lovetok", Softspoken have again teamed up with producers Andrew Baylis and Cameron Mizell to deliver their most polished release to-date. Inspired by vocalist Sam Scheuer's personal struggle to maintain a positive headspace while always having to remain "on" online for the sake of the band, "Lovetok" touches on the double-edged nature of the social world we live in. The contemplative lyrics are only further emphasized by the rolling dynamics of delicately soft moments that rise into aggressive riffs and breakdowns. Founded by guitarist Chris Wethington while living abroad in Japan, Softspoken took shape into a fully-fledged band upon his return to the United States in 2016. The band quickly got to work fine-tuning their brand of progressive post-hardcore with the release of 2017's "Pathways" EP; which was followed up by the band's first LP in 2019's "Deaf Perception XE"; and another EP in 2021's "Where the Heart Belongs". Founded on the idea of being true to yourself and determining your own self-worth, Softspoken consider their music a journey or a story- a look at their lives, the challenges they've faced, or questions they've asked... and they consider every listener and supporter to be speakers in that story. "Our biggest message is to just be you. Be who you want to be, and keep your mind well," explains Wethington.
