Biography

Smith was born in Essex and raised on the Devon seaside. Known for his intimate songwriting, honey-on-gravel voice, and pioneering guitar playing, he tours internationally and has over 80 million streams on Spotify. As a session musician, he has played guitar with many artists including Joan Baez, David Gray, Joe Henry, Lianne La Havas, and Tom Jones. His new releases "The Fray" (2021 album) and "The Fray Variations" (2022 EP) feature guests including Lisa Hannigan, Sarah Jarosz, Bill Frisell, Jessica Stavely-Taylor (of The Staves), and The Milk Carton Kids. They follow "Live in Chester" a live album released in April 2020 as an expression of appreciation for the magic of live shows and "Hummingbird" (2018) - a nod to folk traditions and some of Smith's early influences from across the ages.
