Biography
Consisting of five bands from across various U.K. bases, the Band of H.M. Royal Marines is the musical arm of the Royal Navy. Originally formed in 1903, and now based at the Royal Marines School of Music at HMS Nelson in Portsmouth, the bands consist of musicians who are required to master both a string and a wind instrument. The various band entities have released dozens of independent albums in conjunction with their operational military duties since the 1980s. But it wasn't until 2011, when the Band of H.M. Royal Marines Portsmouth signed a deal with classical specialists Decca, that they released a record with a major label. Featuring guest spots from tenor Alfie Boe and talent show winner Mary-Jess, Summon the Heroes charted at number 21 in the U.K. ~ Jon O'Brien, Rovi
