Through the marriage of sombre and hard-hitting themes with hypnotic, heavy pop, Canberra’s dream- pop act Sesame Girl was born. In no time at all, Sesame Girl have steadily climbed the ranks to be crowned the ACT’s next national export. A project by singer Heather Duncan, Sesame Girl launched their debut single ‘Get Up’ in 2021, receiving global attention. Pilerats dubbed the bands dreamy alt-pop as ‘among the best in Australia’. The band released their debut body of work ‘Lucky Charm’ late 2022, embarking on their first headline national tour, after a support run with Teen Jesus and the Jean Teasers. The band has additionally shared the stage with the likes of Spacey Jane, DZ Deathrays, You Am I, Grinspoon and Crumb (USA), while appearing at festivals such as Spilt Milk, Yours and Owls and Stonefest, all the while, selling out multiple headline shows. Sesame Girl define their influence as both 90s and 80s alt-rock, mixed in with contemporary acts such as Beach House, Clairo and Soccer Mommy. This influence is evident in the band’s latest single ‘BOYS’ with the ‘Riot Grrrl’ esc call - ‘I’m not less interesting than you/ if I’m not interested in you.’ Duncan states: ‘in the end, ‘BOYS’ is a big fuck you to anyone who doesn’t value your worth and can’t see you as more than a sex object.’ This newest single is to be followed by the release of Sesame Girl’s sophomore ep.
