Biography
Founded by Matthew Hegarty, Matthew & The Atlas was borne of the folk rock movement as they became regulars at the West London Communion Club Night. He released his first EP in 2009 on the club night’s record label, Communion Records. Since then he has released three albums, traversing a range of musical territories from classic acoustic folk, to dramatic synth-laden electronica, and urgent guitar led alt-rock. The common thread has been a songwriting style that marries a subtle melodic sensibility with lyrics full of natural imagery and dark emotional heft - all delivered in his striking and distinctive vocal. In the process Hegarty has quietly built a major cult following in Europe and the US. Matt’s new album ‘This Place We Live’ arrives November 2023. For the first time it finds him taking on recording and producing duties. The result is a striking collection of deeply personal songs; an introspective snapshot of a man reckoning with himself and the world at a certain stage of life.
