Biography
Singer/songwriter John Roderick formed The Long Winters in 2001 after years in the Seattle indie scene and a year touring extensively with Harvey Danger. The Worst You Can Do Is Harm, (Barsuk 2002) was produced by Chris Walla and Sean Nelson and featured songs originally performed (but never released) by Roderick’s previous band The Western State Hurricanes. The follow up LP When I Pretend to Fall, (Barsuk 2003) followed shortly thereafter featuring all new music. The Ultimatum EP, produced by Tucker Martine (Barsuk 2005) and the self-produced Putting the Days to Bed (Barsuk 2006) came after. The band’s recordings feature an all-star cast of friends from REM, Built to Spill, the Posies, The Young Fresh Fellows, the Fastbacks, Harvey Danger, Fountains of Wayne, The Decemberists and Death Cab for Cutie.
