Biography

A rootsy, Los Angeles-based Singer/Songwriter, Jack Shields finishes alt-country with an indie-folk varnish. Given that Shields’ upcoming record was partially recorded in Connecticut’s “Dirt Floor Studios,” it’s fitting that his tunes conjure a hootenanny gone terribly awry. His music, however, is anything but rustic. His songs feel reminiscent of The Band, had they honed their craft in mall gallerias rather than Arkansas honky-tonks. As a natural storyteller, Shields’ swooning melodies come alive with irreverent lyricism, ranging from hilarious to heartbreaking. Following a string of singles, Shields most recently released a soundtrack album, “A Curious Year”, in 2019. Born and raised in Connecticut, Shields began writing and producing music in his teens, listening to a mix of classic rock, folk, and indie rock including John Prine, The Band, Warren Zevon, Loudon Wainwright III, and 90’s staples like Ween and Pavement. After melting the faces of Fairfield County’s wine moms, Shields ditched his leafy suburban upbringing for a peripatetic life in the West, working various odd jobs before ultimately landing in Los Angeles, where he drew attention last year with a string of raucous live shows. As COVID-19 ravaged the country, Shields retreated to the mountains and worked at a California ski resort. He weathered the bug in a cabin at 8000 feet, and descended the mountain bearing fruit in the form of his upcoming album, “Late to the Funeral”.
