Biography
Following a head-turning debut in 2021, Cape Town-based groove-pop band, Year of Dogs, announce their upcoming single 'Outside' from their sophomore EP ‘Place to Be’, available on digital platforms from Friday, 2 December 2022. Written over the course of the year and recorded with the band’s long-time friend and producer, Josh Berry (HONEYMOAN) ‘Place to Be’ sees the group foray further into the nostalgic sounds of South African indie rock, albeit with their own twist – combining hallmarks of the genre with elements of psychedelia, R&B, and synth-pop. Each of the tracks on the new EP represent a different emotional state of being and explore the group’s combined philosophies on each: The EP's opener (‘Outside’) is an ode to happiness and a longing for freedom amid periods of frustration and confinement; the second track (‘Above Water’) then explores resilience in the face of hardship; while the third and title-sake track (‘Place to Be’) delves into feelings of love and longing; finally, the fourth song (‘Lil’ Lifetime’) provides a conclusion to this story by reminding listeners to relish each emotion, experience and opportunity. In support of the new EP, Year of Dogs will also be embarking on a tour up the Garden Route this summer, performing alongside notable acts such as Mango Groove, Kloudink, and Matthew Rodriguez, with performances in Cape Town, Stellenbosch, George, Knysna, Wilderness, Nature’s Valley, and Cape St. Francis between the 3rd and 17th of December 2022.
