Hey everybody, this is Andrew Bird And I'm here to tell you about the history of the song "Capsize" Which I've been doing, in various form for the last 12 -13 years Ah, it all began in New Orleans when I was making a record with Jimbo Mathus Who was making a tribute to Charley Patton, the old blues, blues master, um And he did a song called "Jesus is a Dying Bed Maker" And I was really captivated by the, by the lyrics and music And I started doing something like it, um But I was also listening to Furry Lewis and Mississippi Fred Mc Dowell, also old blues men from Mississippi, um Did a tune called "Trimmed and Burning", um And I got lyrics a bit confused between the two It-it kind of a picked up a little bit of this and that and uh I started doing itas "Trimmed And Burning" Ah one of the first thing I ever did solo with looping And this is a version recorded live At The Orange Peel in Asheville, North Carolina Uh, and maybe it was the Smokey Mountains that kind of inspired me But this, this is one is kind stood out This is an early version um, of what down the road became "Capsized"
