Biography
Techno, house, and bass music, among other strains of underground dance music, are all fair game for Harry Aguis, a producer who records under the name Midland. Despite a varied and evolving set of interests, none of his output -- all created with the intent to provoke an involuntary physical response -- has sounded like the result of mere dabbling. Under the name Apt Pupil, Aguis began as a drum'n'bass and dubstep DJ and recorded shows for Frequency FM, an online station based in his native Leeds, England. As Midland, he made his production debut in 2010, the year he and close associate Ramadanman teamed up for a collaborative 12" release on Aus Music and released the solo Play the Game through Phonica. Into the latter half of the 2010s, Aguis issued singles and EPs at a rate of roughly three a year for Aus and his own labels, Graded and Regraded. Additionally, he put together mixes for Fact magazine, Resident Advisor, and Dekmantel, and remixed tracks by Lone, Julio Bashmore, and Flume. Following the success of Midland's 2016 track "Final Credits," which was ubiquitous during the summer festival season, his first official mix CD, Fabriclive 94, appeared in 2017. ~ Andy Kellman, Rovi
