Meltt mold buzzing shoegaze guitars, otherworldly keys, and evocative vocals into a widescreen psychedelic projection of three-dimensional emotion. The Vancouver outfit—Chris Smith, Jamie Turner, James Porter, and Ian Winkler—lean into a lively sonic ebb and flow, bending this natural motion into ethereal and entrancing anthems. After reeling in millions of streams and captivating audiences on the road, the group come together and blur sensory lines on their 2023 EP, Another Quiet Sunday (Nettwerk). Following 2017’s Visions EP, the group’s multi-faceted approach crystallized on their full-length debut, Swim Slowly (2019). “Love Again” tallied over 8 million Spotify streams as “On Your Own” and “Deeper Water” each hit over 1 million streams. Throughout the pandemic, the band wrote and recorded what would become Another Quiet Sunday. Eventually, they spent a month in a remote cabin together where they feverishly wrote and shored up the foundation of the EP. This season fostered and encouraged experimentation and evolution. The result is a captivating new picture of what alternative rock can be. “Since we’re all into different kinds of music, we had this desire to push things and make something super colourful, bright, and cinematic,” states James. “I’ve gotten so much from songs that resonate with your life in a positive way.
