Biography
One of the fastest rising acts to come out of Denmark in recent times, Phlake is comprised of vocalist Mads Bo and producer Jonathan Elkær. The duo propelled themselves into the spotlight in 2016 with their debut album, Slush Hours. The album went 2 x Platinum and was awarded ‘Best Album 2016’ by Apple Music. Slush Hours went on to win five Danish Grammys, including ‘Best Danish Album’. Phlake made another statement in 2017 with the strong follow-up album, Weird Invitations, which is certified Gold. 2020 saw the release of Phlake’s third album, The Illegal Download Of Your Soul, a collaboration between the band and the mysterious singer, Mercedes the Virus. Upon release it was revealed that she was in fact an alter ego, created by the duo for lead singer Mads Bo. The album was certified Gold in Denmark within 6 months. Over the course of their career, Phlake has surpassed over 300 million combined streams and they have performed sold-out headline shows in Copenhagen, London, Berlin, Amsterdam and Oslo. The duo has also performed on the renowned Orange Stage at Roskilde Festival in their native Denmark. Phlake has earned considerable international praise on the way, by publications such as i-D, Diamon Deposits and Complex, who describe Phlake as “cinematic r’n’b’. Having also been dubbed “rhythm’n’balls” on their previous albums, due to the “ballsy” and innovative nature of their music, they’ve now expanded their sound.
