Biography

Aviations began a passion project in 2011 by James Knoerl (Drums) and Sam Harchik (Guitar). Upon meeting vocalist Adam Benjamin in mid-2012, the group began a full-length record amidst their studies at Berklee College of Music, tracking nearly everything in James & Sam’s apartment. Summer 2012, James and Sam recorded live drums at Zoinga Recording in Michigan, and Sam produced and mixed “A Declaration of Sound” released on Oct. 13th, 2012. They generated popularity in the Boston metal scene, playing around New England and on a brief midwest tour in March 2014. After a few member changes, finishing studies at Berklee and various entrepreneurial endeavors, 2016 announced “The Light Years” as the band’s 2nd album, with the 1st single “Dizziness Explained” released on Sept. 16 2016. 2017 saw the release of another single, “Facewaves” on Nov. 3rd 2017 in time for a midwest, Canada, and east coast tour with Arch Echo. The album "The Light Years" released on January 19th, 2018 Re-recording of songs from their first EP titled “Retrospect” debuted in 2020, featuring a new line-up for the first time on record. It was incredibly well received with more streams than many previous releases combined. Popularity surrounding it’s 11+ minute track “Outliers” in the YouTube reaction community, particularly MetalBirb’s Song of the Year 2020 award, pushed the band further in the prog metal scene. The band is currently hard at work on its 3rd full length album due for release in 2023.
