Biography
Santiago, Chile's Coprofago were formed in 1993 by vocalists/guitarists Pablo Alvarez and Sebastián Vergara, bassist Felipe Castro, and drummer Marcelo Ruiz, who recorded their five-track demo while still in their teens and then introduced the world to their highly technical death-jazz metal style (influenced by Atheist, Cynic, etc.) via 1997's Images of Despair album. Three years later, they finally produced a follow-up in the Genesis LP, which showed the band meant business by including contributions from Rodrigo Castro on fretless bass. - Eduardo Rivadavia, Rovi. 2005's LP "Unorthodox Creative Criteria" explores further on the fusion sound introduced in previous efforts by including several instrumental tracks alongside blast-beat driven songs such as "Constriction" or "Neutralized". After prolonged hiatus, Coprofago reunited in 2018 for some live gigs in their homeland, Chile. In 2022 they released digitally "Genesis 22", a reworked version the otherwise unavailable EP "Genesis".
