Biography
The brainchild of Alberta native Evan John Uschenko, Canada's Ghost Woman employ a hypnotic blend of dusty garage rock, psych-blasted punk, and jangly, lo-fi indie pop. Emerging in 2016, the band issued their self-titled debut in 2022, followed by Anne, If in 2023. Uschenko started as a touring multi-instrumentalist with Edmonton-based indie rocker Michael Rault. Sharing stages with Jacco Gardner, King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard, and the Mild High Club helped shape Ghost Woman's sound, which is also informed by envelope-pushing artists like Can, Beak, Jefferson Airplane, the Byrds, and the Firesign Theatre. Debuting in 2021 with the three-track EP Lost Echo's, Ghost Woman inked a deal with London indie label Full Time Hobby ahead of the release of their eponymous debut long-player in 2022. The singles "Broke" and "The End of a Gun" arrived later that year and appeared on the group's sophomore long-player, Anne, If. Released in 2023, the majority of the hazy and elemental LP was recorded on Uschenko's Tascam 388 tape recorder ~ James Christopher Monger
