Biography
MARO is a multi-instrumentalist, songwriter & producer from Lisbon, Portugal. Graduating from Berklee College of Music (Boston) in 2017, the Portuguese artist officially debuted her career in 2018, having released five albums + an EP. She later joined Jacob Collier on his 2019 DJESSE World Tour, as a part of the band. In those years, MARO has opened for a lot of artists including Jessie J, Charlotte Cardin & ¿Téo?, and sold-out headline shows in Portugal, Spain, Brazil, Mexico & USA. In 2020, "ITSAME, MARO!" was born, a project dedicated to promoting collaboration at a distance. The series includes 100 episodes with artists from all sorts of musical genres, such as Eric Clapton, Lennon Stella, The Paper Kites, Pablo Alborán, Lizzy McAlpine, Madison Cunningham, ANAVITÓRIA, Ivan Lins, Vitor Kley, Sílvia Pérez Cruz, Maria Gadú, Mayra Andrade, Rui Veloso, Lionel Loueke & many others. Alongside her musical calls, a collaborative EP with NASAYA was made: "PIRILAMPO". 4 songs that mark the beginning of a sonic world the two artists found together. The first of many releases. Most recently, MARO has won the Festival da Canção & represented her country at Eurovision (2022) with "saudade, saudade", guaranteeing a place in the top 10. She has also co-written "Better Now" with ODESZA, played several sold-out shows & recorded a live performance EP at Sonastério. MARO's latest album "can you see me?" shows a new side of her, with influences from pop, trap, world & folk.
