Biography

Postman, given name Kostiantyn Pochtar, is a Ukrainian musician, multi instrumentalist, singer, and songwriter who splits his life between Kyiv and Wroclaw. Postman represents the new wave of Ukrainian music that emerged after the 2013-2014 Revolution of Dignity. Although his main influences come from the 60's, his music is modern city folk at its finest. Postman has played hundreds of shows in Europe and was a supporting act for the bands Warhaus, Seafret and Flunk.
Kostiantyn was born and raised in Kyiv. His childhood was full of busy city glimpses: the cosmic architecture of Ukrainian modernism, the yellow-red Škoda trolleybuses and long metro trips, as well as serene summers spent in his grandma's village. There, he contemplated the old way and pace of life close to nature. Later on, the dusty roads, cheap motels, scratchy records and worn pages of Hermann Hesse and Julio Cortazar books shaped Postman’s artistic sensibility.
While the acoustic guitar serves as his main instrument for live performances, his studio albums are often ornamented with rich arrangements that season his music with folk-rock, psychedelic rock and baroque-pop elements. In addition to being a skilled songwriter, Postman mostly plays all the instruments on his recordings.
So, where does the name ‘Postman’ come from? Well, it’s a direct translation of Kostianyn’s surname ‘Pochtar’ from Ukrainian into English.
 Kostiantyn Pochtar is a co-founder of a Kyiv-based indie-rock band 5 vymir.
