Biography
Born and raised in Detroit, Alex Winston is a classically trained opera vocalist and indie pop singer/songwriter with an unmistakable voice. Her music pairs scrappy upbeat sonics with the down-low of real life and lyrics that infuse self-aware wit into some of her most painful moments. Winston released her critically-acclaimed debut album, King Con, in 2012 on Island Records and shared the stage with acts like Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros, Little Dragon, Grouplove, and Neon Trees. She signed with 300 Records for The Day I Died EP in 2015, but her sophomore full-length follow up was shelved and never released. Around that time, Winston began her battle with Lyme disease, which lasted almost two years. Pre-pandemic, Winston released a slew of singles, in addition to teaming up with friend & MS MR member Max Hershenow for their side project, Post Precious, which featured collaborations with artists like Charli XCX and Ryn Weaver. In 2022, she celebrates the 10 year anniversary of her first release, King Con, with a vinyl re-press and a new EP of reimagined versions of her classic songs, in addition to live performances from beloved La Blogothèque Take Away sessions from that era, and a previously unreleased Townes Van Zandt cover. 2023 will see Alex Winston release a new full-length album that showcases her growth as a writer & producer, as well as her confidence in who she is as an artist coming of age in her 30s.
