Biography

Singer-songwriter, arranger and music producer based in Jakarta, Indonesia. Born of Indonesian-Japanese parents, Mondo Gascaro grew up listening to all kinds of oldies music played in his parents’ Japanese nightclub every day. He cited the Beatles, Antonio Carlos Jobim, Paul Simon and Yockie Suryoprayogo as his primary influence. This, combined with his love of the cinema and jazz, created for him a personal yet eclectic sound in his songs and arrangement. Mondo’s career began as the member of Sore, with whom he released two albums of critical acclaims, Centralismo (2005) and Ports of Lima (2008). In 2012 Mondo produced Payung Teduh’s album Dunia Batas under his own label Ivy League Music. Mondo' solo debut, Rajakelana came in 2016. The album received good reviews from many top publications, including Album of the Year by Tempo magazine. Asides from being a singer-songwriter Mondo Gascaro is also recognized as a film composer with works in the films “Love for Share” (2006), “The Forbidden Door” (2008), “The Ritual” (2012) and more recently Garin Nugroho’s “Memories Of My Body” (2018). For this film he was awarded Piala Citra as Best Music Director. Right before the pandemic Mondo Gascaro released the single “Dian Asmara” (2019), a duet with an senior Indonesian jazz diva Rien Djamain. Now Mondo is back with the latest release, a double single with the talented singer Agatha Pricilla, “Cipta di Batas Rasa / Lepas Berdansa”.
