Biography
Grupo Pegasso was formed in 1979 in Cerralvo, Nuevo Leon, Mexico by Federico “el Pollo” Estevan the guitar player and musical director of the band. Mr. Estevan recluted the first band members: Juan Antonio (1st Voice), Hector (Keyboards), Iniguez (Percussions), Jose Santos (Bass Electrico), and Jorge Puig (Drums), and recorded their first album. After the album, the band starts to perform live, and they moved to Texas to start their first tour. After Juan Antonio Espinoza’s departure of the band, Federico Estevan decided to rerecord Grupo Pegasso’s first album, to include a new singer on the vocals and relaunched at the beginning of 1980. Grupo Pegasso Vol.1 single “Los Dos Amantes” became an instant hit. Grupo Pegasso's second album, “Se Tambalea” was released in 1982 in Mexico and the United States. This album received recognition due to its distinctive synthesizer and guitar riffs and proved a commercial breakthrough. Grupo Pegasso's third album, El No Te Quiere was released in 1983. By this time they had become an established entity known throughout northern Mexico and the South of the United States for their danceable style. Grupo Pegasso are considered legends due to their invention of the cumbia pegassera style, their arrangements featured organ melodies played with the Hammond B200 organ and have been touring in Mexico and across United States continuously for the last 42 years. A new 40th Anniversary hits album was rerecorded in 2019, with the new vocalists.
