Biography
Los Yerberos is a band from Mexico City formed in 1992. Their sound is primarily influenced by Reggae music, although they also mingle with New Wave, Latin music and World Beat. Shortly after being formed, the band recruited musicians from Jamaica, Haiti and Martinique, thus becoming a multicultural act. Their first album Los Yerberos (1993), solely launched in old-school cassette format, led the band to sign a recording contract with BMG. In 1995, Los Yerberos launched their most revered record to date: A Filo de Machete, with the classics La Sal, El Polecía, Skalofríos and El Laberinto. In 2022, it was released in a remastered version and was also included in the book: Mexican Rock’s 200 Most ‘Chingones’ Albums. The band launched the album Los Yerberos 3 (2000), with the singles Sigue Girando, Este Sol and El Son de la Tumba. This album opened the doors for international exposure, taking the band to Colombia for a series of concerts. In 2014, the band’s discography was incorporated to Mexico’s Fonoteca Nacional as part of the country’s musical anthology. This important milestone led the original members to talk about an imminent reunion, and a year later Los Yerberos played live for the first time in 13 years. Following their reunion, Los Yerberos recorded in audio/video: Sesiones Para Los Leones, the live studio sessions of updated versions of their classic songs with plans for a double-vinyl and streaming launch in 2023.
