Biography
With a penchant for captivating melodies and a self-described ‘curious mind’, singer/songwriter Josh Gauton creates music that explores the heights & the depths of life, faith & human emotion in a hauntingly beautiful blend of rock, folk & indie, told through his enigmatic and tender lyrics. Born in Canterbury and raised on a diet of 80s Nu Wave and Acoustic Rock, Josh’s early foray into music was through Classical - playing the violin in orchestras and ensembles in hallowed venues such as his famous hometown Cathedral. Discovering Grunge and Nu Metal as a teenager led Josh to teach himself guitar, and he began penning his own compositions in the years that followed. In 2015, along with a relocation to his current home in Birmingham, he released his first single, followed the next year with his debut EP As the Waters Rise. 2019 was the year Josh both released his debut LP, the indie-rock hymnal O, Peace to critical acclaim and decided to take a break from the project in order to start the alternative & rock outfit lotusbliss with two of his brothers - themselves carving out a dedicated fanbase within the UK music scene. 4 years on, Josh Gauton makes a return with his sophomore offering ‘Slow Renaissance’ - the new album, carefully crafted by Josh with a host of talented artists and musicians. Texturally rich, laced with burgeoning metaphor and sewn together by his swooping, ethereal vocal, ‘Slow Renaissance’ is Josh Gauton’s most ambitious, most vulnerable work to date.
