I've lived in several places That were known as auto towns In which very few cars Are made at anymore And the people are gone The town's left bare to the bone And the few that remained poor Worn down to the core And too many workers Left broke without pay Cause too many leaders Shipped the jobs away And this plan that has worked for the wealthy Has ruined the many lives That live without pay And the Auto Town blues That they're singing today Has taken them down As they live without pay These workers that labored To profit the rich Are the homeless now forced To live out in the street The leaders that lead With profit in mind Have totally forgot The ones left behind The concerns they have Are selfish indeed They care to receive only Infested with greed But the day will come soon That corrupt leaders will fall And all the powers they had Will be gone forever Because power that you abuse Is power that you loose And the ones that work hard Should live like they choose And the Auto Town blues Will be far and away What once took them down To where they lived without pay Will be gone forever Without a return And the ones that have labored Can live without a concern
