Biography
Samoans were a band from Cardiff featuring Dan Barnett on guitar/vocals, Calvin Ley on Bass, Chris Rouse on Drums, and Oli Miles on Guitar. The band formed in 2008 and spent the next few years releasing a series of singles and EPs on Barely Regal and Kissability Records and touring extensively, including appearances on the BBC Introducing stage at Reading and Leeds festivals and recording several live sessions for the BBC, including one at Maida Vale studios. 2014 saw tour support slots with No Devotion (ex-lostprophets /Thursday) and Kids In Glass Houses and the release of their Welsh Music Prize nominated debut album Rescue, marking a shift in the bands sound, towards more introspective direction. In September 2017, the band released their long-awaited sophomore album entitled Laika with Kerrang magazine hailing it as "a gentle, charming concept that keep's the band's angular rock on the rightside of interesting KKKK" and The Independent declaring "Laika is a deeply rich and rewarding record". In May 2018 the group disbanded as they felt it had come to a natural conclusion. The final two shows were in the band's hometowns of Cardiff and Aldershot. Dan now plays in the bands Nyet Klub and Wylderness as well as writing and performing under the name Ritual Cloak, Oli currently plays in False Hope for the Savage, Wylderness and Rough Music. Chris plays for SO-CRATES, AXE HAND, Salvation Bill and Attendant.
