Biography
Chosen to represent Spain at the 2010 Eurovision Song Contest with the song "Algo Pequeñito," Daniel Diges is a Spanish pop singer who made his Top Ten hit eponymous album debut around the same time. Born Daniel Diges García on January 17, 1981, in Alcalá de Henares, Madrid, Spain, he began his professional career as a television actor. His first major role, and perhaps his most memorable, was the character Gato in the teen-oriented telenovela Nada Es Para Siempre, which aired from 1999 to 2000 on Antena 3. Diges subsequently appeared on the shows Hospital Central, Max Clan, and Aquí No Hay Quien Viva, among others. During the mid- to late 2000s, he moved from television to musical theater, starring in the Spanish stage productions Hoy No Me Puedo Levantar, We Will Rock You, High School Musical, and Mamma Mia! As a pop vocalist, Diges was cast on the television reality show Eurovisión: Destino Oslo, the winner of which was chosen to represent Spain at the 2010 Eurovision Song Contest in Oslo, Norway. He was declared winner on February 22, 2010, with his performance of the song "Algo Pequeñito." A few months later, Diges proceeded to the Eurovision Song Contest, where he finished in 15th place behind winner Lena from Germany. In association with spotify:search:label%3A%22Warner+Music%22 , Diges made his self-titled album debut a couple weeks before the Eurovision Song Contest finale. Produced by Óscar Gómez and comprised primarily of songs written by Diges himself, along with covers of Billy Joel ("Just the Way You Are"), Michael Bublé ("Everything"), and Robbie Williams ("Angels"), Daniel Diges was a Top Ten hit on the Spanish albums chart. In the meantime, "Algo Pequeñito" was a Top Five hit on the Spanish singles chart. ~ Jason Birchmeier, Rovi
