Biography

Jackson, MS born; New Orleans raised, Tonya Boyd-Cannon, the "witty and dope SOUL artist!" Tonya’s fairly-rare contralto voice pushes the envelope on every note she sings! With her combination of creative vocals and instrumentation, Tonya's voice has been described as a fused-melodic kaleidoscope. Boyd- Cannon got her professional start as a background vocalist for Jean Knight, best known for her 1970’s hit single, “Mr. Big Stuff". Taking her career to the next level, Tonya wrote music, released albums, collaborated with various artists/musicians, and competed in talent competitions. Her hard work paid off; making her a "Top 20" finalist on NBC’s Emmy- award-winning show, “The Voice; where she was on Adam Levine’s team. Tonya Boyd-Cannon’s newest work, “Feel Good”, is like the fragrant, smooth pour of a vintage bourbon. Created with ingredients from the past, (notes of Betty Wright, Aretha, and Marvin), then skillfully channeled through Boyd-Cannon to enjoy in the present, “Feel Good” pours new flavor into a soulfully vintage sound. A loving tribute to the late DJ Smoove, Boyd-Cannon’s warm and layered voice along with the smooth, rock-stepping bassline takes you by the hand, eases you to the dance floor and effortlessly sends you into a #FeelGood state of mind.
