Biography
Bone Poets Orchestra is the brainchild of Christopher Bingham and Sue Tinney. Bingham has been performing and composing since the late 70s, when he played the small clubs and coffee houses of St Louis’s Central West End, before he escaped to study music in the Pacific Northwest. He fell in love with the land and the people and has been interpreting the wet, mountainous terrain ever since. Before they were Bone Poets, Bingham recorded three solo records. In 1997, Bingham and Tinney started the seminal Pagan band Gaia Consort, which Sagewoman Magazine dubbed the “Pagan Band of the century, if not the millennium.” Eventually growing to 8 players, Gaia Consort played many of the major Pagan festivals around the US and Canada. Twelve years later, it was time for a change and they became Bone Poets Orchestra. BPO has evolved into a kind of psychedelic chamber rock. They sound like a mix of Dave Matthews, and Peter Gabriel, with touches of Jethro Tull. The groove fits the lyric content which inspires allegiance if you celebrate the natural world, polyamory or have ever dipped your toes into psychedelic and alternative culture. Bingham has been the driving force through it all. Bone Poets built their audience by self-producing shows from house concerts to small theaters eventually headlining small festivals. Long before Kickstarter, Bingham crowd-sourced his recordings. Over the years, fans have donated over $100,000 to adopt songs on 11 full length cds.
