Biography
Jorge Santa Cruz y Su Grupo Quinto Elemento are a regional Mexican group whose musical style is primarily comprised of corridos but also includes rancheras and romanticas. Based in Los Angeles, California, the group is led by vocalist Jorge Santa Cruz, who hails from Culiacán, Sinaloa, the epicenter of Mexico's drug-trafficking industry. Santa Cruz y Su Grupo Quinto Elemento made their full-length album debut with Scarface Renacido (2010), an independently released effort filled with narcocorridos, most notably the hit title track for which a bloody video was filmed. The album also spawned the minor hits "Más Que una Diosa," "Gerencia MZ," and "Secuestro Express." The success of Scarface Renacido led to a recording contract with Del Records/Sony Music. Santa Cruz y Su Grupo Quinto Elemento's second album, La Supremacía (2011), was an even bigger hit than their debut, thanks in large part to the crossover hit "Ella Es Mi Mujer," a romantic ballad in sharp contrast to the group's often violent corridos. ~ Jason Birchmeier, Rovi
