Biography

Ever since he was a young child, Gheorghe Zamfir had only one dream: to play the accordion like the blind gypsy girl who had mesmerized him at the age of four while walking down the streets of Bucharest on a heavy winter day. When he was 14 he enrolled at the musical high school where due to his exceptional gift and fabulous talent he was accepted to the Pan flute class where Fanica Luca was teaching. He later studied the conservatory and he was the conductor for many years of the famous Romanian folkloric ensemble "The Skylark". Since 1971 he is touring the world, and seduced the audience with his mystic sounds. The Empress of Japan invited him, the Pope John Paul the 2nd received him three times, and chiefs of state received him from all over the world. Master Zamfir composed more than 300 works for the Pan flute and different instruments or orchestras. He recorded more than 200 albums, sold many millions of copies and earned more than 120 platinum and golden discs. Gheorghe Zamfir interpreted the music for "Once Upon A Time in America", "Karate Kid", or "The Tall Blonde Man with One Black Shoe”. Tarantino used his beautifully interpreted song “The Lonely Shepherd” composed by James Last as a soundtrack in “Kill Bill”. Throughout his career, he was collaborating with Top musicians from all over the world. Duke Ellington said about Gheorghe Zamfir that such a talented artist should belong to the category of inspired by God musicians. - Zamfir Management
