Biography
Behind the rich soundscapes of the works of Aléatoire—the electronic project of Montrealer Charles-Alain Roy—is a world bursting with creativity that favours no one musical genre over another. The Montreal-based composer, producer and musician's albums Failles dorsales (2012) and Pavillon (2014) show the range of his influences, which include punk, rap, experimental music, jazz, shoegaze, and even noise rock. No surprise, then, that all his tracks are such an original crossroads of sounds. After starting out as a guitarist in various rock groups, it was through electronic music that he began a self-taught journey guided by research and experimentation. Roy, who plays many of the instruments himself, is passionate about sampling and sound effects and always in search of tones that are warm, organic and deep. Aléatoire's three most recent collaborations with vocal artists ("Dollas (on you)" with Odile Myrtil, "Best Friends" with Ariane Zita, and "Headrush" with Claire Ridgely) have attracted great interests.
