I watched Him there Bleeding 'neath the weight of the Roman cross Stumbing as He bore it toward the hill Some laughed at Him Falling weak and weary before his foes Innocent, yet sentenced to be killed Soldiers dragged me from that crowd to bear His cross of shame But after looking in His eyes I knew I hadn't eased His pain The cross He carried, no one else could share The cross He carried, only He could bear And as He walked that road alone The cross He carried was my own I felt the weight as they forced the burden upon my back A burden that was only made of wood I struggled on, knowing that His anguish was something more Something I had never understood Then Jesus looked at me with warm compassion in His eyes I saw the Lamb that for sin of man was sacrificed The cross He carried, no one else could share The cross He carried, only He could bear And as He died to save all men The cross He carried was our sin The cross He carried was our sin
