Biography

Disjecta Membra formed in 1993, New Zealand. Early output, including the 1997 debut album, Achromaticia, established the group's following in the international 'goth rock' genre, while later releases like The Infancy Gospels are often noted for their diversity, exploring swamprock, blues, folk, noise, no-wave, post-punk, synthpop, drone and traditional Māori elements. The group's best-known singles include Madeleine! Madelaine!, Death by Discothèque (Remixes), and Cauldron of Cerridwen. The band has toured with Peter Murphy (Bauhaus) and The Mission; played support to Mick Harvey (The Birthday Party/Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds); Peter Hook (Joy Division/New Order) and Death In June; and hosted NZ tours and shows for visiting Australians Ikon, Sounds Like Winter and Masses. Founded and fronted by Michel Rowland, the current lineup also comprises longtime members Kane Davey, Jaz Murphy, and a drum-machine. Living up to the band's name (Latin for "scattered fragments"), over many incarnations Disjecta Membra has shared members with Head Like A Hole, Jordan Reyne/Dr. Kevorkian and The Suicide Machine, Avotor, Crash Scan, Distorture, Serenna and Dreams are Like Water; been remixed by Leæther Strip, Andee Blacksugar (Black Sugar Transmission/KMFDM/Peter Murphy), The Mercy Cage, Rich Witherspoon (The Wake/Hamsas Xiii) and Attrition; and regularly collaborate with taonga pūoro instrumentalist Rob Thorne. http://www.disjecta-membra.com | http://disjectamembra.bandcamp.com
