Biography
Giant Party are an alternative, four piece hailing from Basingstoke. Taking inspiration from Talking Heads, Gorillaz & Peter Gabriel, and creating a sound that has been compared to Perfume Genius, New Order and Future Islands, the band’s releases to date have garnered critical acclaim from the likes of Noisey, NME, DIY, Line Of Best Fit, Clash, The Guardian, and BBC Radio1 & 6Music. Impressively, Elton John is a signed-up fan having played several of the band’s tracks on his Beats1 show. The band’s incendiary live show has seen them grace stages across UK & European festivals: The Great Escape, Live at Leeds, Stag and Dagger, Twisterella Festival, Metropolis Festival (Rotterdam), Indiestad (Amsterdam) and Pete The Monkey Festival (Normandy), whilst playing sold out headline shows at home at Electrowerkz, Oslo, & The Lexington. Giant Party’s debut album - due March 2023 - was recorded with Kevin Vanbergen (Kid Kapichi, Nova Twins) at Hastings’ Save Sound studios. The record juxtaposes colourful, optimistic pop sounds with raw emotional lyrics based on the experience of brothers Al & Tim Harrod losing three family members in quick succession - including their estranged father who they hand’t seen in twenty years. What shines through in the album is the bond of brotherhood the Harrods forged in the process, and despite it’s traumatic roots the album is a remarkable record in which pain and existential dilemmas are countered by moments of sheer joy and energising exuberance.
