Biography
Grammy award-winning artist Ryan Edgar has donned the cloak of Louis II – powerfully embodying the well-earned confidence and undaunted spirit of one of the hardest workers in the industry. While Louis II may be somewhat of a departure from Edgar’s southern soul and singer/songwriter sensibilities, the new project still holds roots in his unique multifaceted musicality. Edgar grew up in Charleston, SC as a gospel singer but listened voraciously to a wide array of genres – everything from from R&B to surfer punk rock. The diversity of inspiration is evident in Louis II; an effortless amalgamation of soul, rock, funk, and hip-hop. Fans of Bruno Mars, Chance the Rapper, and James Brown will enjoy Louis II’s music as he sings and raps against a backdrop of powerful horns, fat kick drums, and bouncy piano chords. Edgar’s impact is immediate: his vocals deliver an irresistible cadence and swagger, as if his genuine positivity wasn’t hooky enough. Louis II celebrates the victories of the grind and sharing the joys of success with others. While his bravado is evident, it isn’t self-indulgent. Tracks like “Hustlin’” manifest confidence in a laid-back, almost summertime sheen. “Glorious”—a hip-hop track that harkens back to Edgar’s hand-clapping, full-sway gospel days—transports you to the heat of a southern chapel house. With so many nuances and subtle stylistic shifts, each track offers a refreshing strike of familiar kindled with a spark of novelty, and all that’s left is fire.
