Biography
With a discography that spans more than 20 years and 9 albums as a leader, the Philadelphia-born, New York-based JD Walter—known for his distinctive vocal tone and a sensibility that is both traditionalist and forward-thinking—is one of the world’s top modern jazz singers. Walter has performed at American jazz clubs and festivals in the U.S., Europe, the Middle East, Central America as well as over 80 tours in Russia. He has headlined at Dizzy’s Lincoln Center, The Jazz Standard, The Blue Note, and The Jazz Gallery, Birdland, Mezzrow and Smalls among other venues. He has recorded and shared the stage with legendary artists, ranging from Dave Liebman, Billy Hart, Tom Harrell, Eddie Gomez, Bob Dorough, Taylor Eigsti, James Genus, Obed Calvaire, Nicholas Payton, Ben Monder, Sean Jones, Jean-Michel Pilc, Bill Evans, Mark Murphy, Greg Hutchinson, Ari Hoenig, Jim Ridl, Orrin Evans, Seamus Blake, Igor Butman, Nasheet Waits, Eric Revis, Gilad Hekselman, and Christian McBride.
