Biography
Dance music duo RHYME SO connects the floor-filling beats of Japan’s past with witty and cutting lyrical takes on contemporary life, refashioning familiar club sounds into a style pointing forward. It consists of prolific producer and DJ Shinichi Osawa and emerging poet, producer and performer RHYME. The two first met each other at a party held by a mutual friend in Tokyo, although the globe-trotting RHYME had been a fan of Osawa for years. They connected quickly. “He invited me to his studio, and we made a cool demo on day one. I am good with words and he was looking for a lyrical wordsmith and vocal tongue twister,” RHYME says. Their debut single “Just Used Music Again” came out via 88 Rising, and appeared on their 2019 compilation Head In The Clouds II. The song landed on popular playlists across streaming services, and received attention from media outlets. In the spring of 2020, RHYME SO shared new song “Fashion Blogger,” highlighting RHYME’s tongue-in-cheek approach to lyrics and featuring an eye-grabbing video attracting over 2 million views on YouTube. New single “Poseable” continues to show their fresh approach to the genre. RHYME SO aim to show the cutting-edge side of contemporary Japanese music to the world.
