Biography
Hey! We are Malingo, the most enchanting folk band in the Midwest, and we have one goal in mind: to move you in one way or another. Our music blends folk, bluegrass, and psychedelic blues for a sound that is often nostalgic, often melancholy, often intense, but always emotional. Malingo began as a solo recording project, but now our 5-piece band is hitting the stage with a live set that is sure to steal your heart and leave you smiling. If that's not enough, we're still releasing new music nearly every month, so hit that follow button wherever you find it and try and keep up! Some history from the founder, Jonny: In 2016 I started the album "Fay" as a way to process and cope with my mom’s Alzheimer’s diagnosis. I tried to let the music meander with my emotions and couldn't be prouder of the result. Be sure to check out the full-length film I made for the album on YT or IG - it's quite a trip and the most special piece of art I've created. All proceeds from the album and video go to Alzheimer's foundations. Writing “Fay” did a lot of things for me, not least it made me realize how badly I need to make music a regular part of my life. It’s either write songs or die. To that end, I’ve embarked on a decades-long journey to tell you pieces of my story and some of the lessons I’ve learned. Expect around 10 new songs a year - some you’ll love and some you won’t - but either way I sincerely hope you find value in the music I and the band create. Come say 👋 on Instagram!
