Latin GRAMMY awarded and Colombian icon Petrona Martínez is the most influential group in bullerengue history, a genre led and preserved by elderly women in the Maroon Caribbean for centuries. Their album ANCESTRAS features collaborations with Susana Baca, Angelique Kidjo, Aymée Nuviola, Nidia Gongora, among other remarkable women. ANCESTRAS constitutes their latest recordings at the peak of the vocalist´s powers as composer, vocalist, and group leader. Petrona Martinez Villa has composed hundreds of songs while leaving her cultural marks: one Grammy award and three nominations among countless accolades; and the prominence of the historically marginalized bullerengue music as a canonical genre of Colombian national identity and the Maroon Heritage.
