Biography
Created by Polyphonic Spree and Tripping Daisy mastermind Tim DeLaughter in 2009, Preteen Zenith finds the singer moving away from the grandiose productions of his other projects in favor of a sound that's more personal, though no less psychedelic. After working on new material on his own that wasn't quite a fit for the Polyphonic Spree, DeLaughter teamed up with former Tripping Daisy bandmate Philip E. Karnats to record some of the new ideas he'd been hammering out. Over the course of a couple trips, which found the pair fighting floods in Karnats' home studio in Chicago, building a makeshift studio in a cabin in Memphis, and racing against the clock with the birth of Karnats' first child on the horizon, DeLaughter and Karnats were able to rekindle their creative partnership. They were also able to recruit from the massive ranks of the Polyphonic Spree to round out their band's lineup, eventually bringing on Dylan Silvers, Jason Garner, Julie Doyle, and Evan Hisey. With a full live lineup and a hard-fought recording process under their belt, Preteen Zenith's debut album, Rubble Guts & BB Eye, was released in 2012 on DeLaughter's label, Good Records. ~ Gregory Heaney, Rovi
