Biography
Hailing from Southampton, Max McLellan has been releasing music under the moniker of Psychic Shakes since 2016, with his first EP ‘Psychic’ on the Liverpudlian cassette label Hail Hail Records. It would act as one of the first of many hazy portals into the life of a reclusive, cryptically confessional lo-fi musician. Inspired by the hypnotic delivery of Elliott Smith, the punk mystique of Greg Sage, and the eccentric, melodically driven pop of Martin Newell, McLellan has created a genre hopping, era bending project in Psychic Shakes which hasn't gone unnoticed. 2019 was a big year for McLellan. The single 'Nightplay' was featured in the HBO Max show 'El Asesino Del Olvido,' whilst 'Bored Of Me' made waves with Indie and Bedroom Pop tastemakers around the world. This attention earned Psychic Shakes a deal with Good Eye Records, and several months later in 2020 McLellan followed up with the EP 'Unsaid'- another confessional release with a playful, laid-back theme. With the turbulence of the pandemic, the project took some time on hold. Following a period of reflection and an understated 2022 re-work of his single 'Kings', McLellan has his eye set on 2023 as his most prolific year to date.
