Biography
A Canadian folksinger who rose to fame as a storyteller prior to embarking on a commercial recording career, Fred Pellerin made his Top Ten hit solo album debut in 2009 with Silence. Born in Saint-Élie-de-Caxton, Quebec, he studied literature at the Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières. His first published book, Dans Mon Village, Il Y a Belle Lurette... (2001), a well-received collection of stories about his hometown originally told to him by his grandmother, was followed by several others, Il Faut Prendre le Taureau par les Contes (2003), Comme une Odeur de Muscles (2005), and Bois du Thé Fort, Tu Vas Pisser Drette (2005), the first three of which were compiled on an audiobook release in 2006. Other books followed, including Zoom sur... Saint-Élie-de-Caxton (2006) and L'Arracheuse de Temps (2009). Moreover, many of these stories were performed on-stage as theatrical shows. In 2007 Pellerin and his brother Nicolas released an album of folk music, Fred et Nicolas Pellerin, which proved successful from both a critical and commercial standpoint. A couple years later Pellerin made his solo album debut with Silence (2009), a Top Ten hit on the Canadian albums chart. He released C'est un Monde in 2011 and Plus Tard Qu'on Pense in 2014. ~ Jason Birchmeier, Rovi
